'Snow Glow' by Jenny Karlsson

Snow Glow {Explored}
Photo credit: Jenny Karlsson on Flickr

So yesterday we finally had some snow. At about 5pm it fell for all of about 15 minutes but it was a proper mini blizzard and it even settled on the ground for while. As predicted my son was super excited and I couldn't drag him away from the window. He was annoyed I wouldn't let him go outside and also questioned whether snow meant Father Christmas was coming. But it's all gone now and no more is forecast. I am therefore hoping an early spring is round the corner but I have a feeling my hopes will be dashed.

This is a stunning snowy photo and it doesn't actually make me feel cold. That beautiful sunlight looks almost summery. In fact if the picture hadn't been called 'Snow Glow' I would have questioned whether that was actually a sandy beach.

Happy weekend everyone. Enjoy the snow... if you have it!

'Running on empty' by skubmic

Running on empty

I am sharing another running photo today as it is such a contrast to the last photo I posted. My Brighton parasols picture was all about beautiful blue skies but the beauty in this is in the absence of colour. Even a grey snowy day can make for a wonderful picture. The subject of the photo is interesting too. I do wonder if I would have the motivation to go out running on a day like this as it looks rather cold. And as a running beginner that hill looks rather steep too. I can see myself walking up that.

'Snow!' by Hugrun Lena

Did you all have a fantastic Christmas? I really hope you did because mine was wonderful. In fact I have loved the whole festive season. We've done so much and been really busy and it's been great. Christmas Day itself was just brilliant. It was definitely made extra special by the children who had such great time. Naturally my four year old was super excited but I was really surprised by how much my eight month old got into the Christmas spirit too. He definitely knew it was a special day. He was a bit of cliche because he did spend a lot of time playing with the packaging and the wrapping paper. But the funniest thing was bedtime. Usually he's so tired by the end of the day and completely out like a light but that day he took ages to settle and just wanted cuddles. I genuinely think didn't want to be left alone. I think he would rather have been downstairs continuing the celebrations.

Anyway, there so much I could write about Christmas but I'll stop now and look forward to the next few days chilling at home with family and friends. It's sort of a shame there is no snow forecast as that would have finished off the holidays perfectly, especially as we don't really have to get anywhere in a hurry. I love this snowy Christmas photo as it really has captured the magic of freshly fallen snow. I love it when it snows at night like this. It makes everything just seem so peaceful.

Here is a simple yet stunning photo. I love everything about it. I love how cold it looks but cold in a nice way. I adore the colours. Those fresh blues and greens are lovely and the reason they are so gorgeous is that fabulous sunlight. Now here's hoping that if it snows round here the sun will be kind enough to shine like this so I too can capture a few snowy moments.

This photo is so beautiful. The sunlight is just perfect. I love it when the sun bounces of snow like this. In the past I've tried to take pictures of light shining on the snow like this but can't say I've captured anything this stunning.

I hope you're all keeping warm because here in the UK the temperature is definitely dropping. I don't think we'll be getting any snow down here just yet - but those are famous last words are they!!

'My commute' by david barclay

My commute by david barclay
My commute, a photo by david barclay on Flickr.
It's starting to get cold outside. This week started off kind of mild but by Friday I could feel the temperature really dropping. I don't think we're anywhere near getting snow yet which I think I am pleased about. I'm not quite ready for that yet. I hope we get a little bit but I can't be bothered with the country going crazy the minute the first snowflake appears. I just want to build a snowman!

I love this photo because it was taken in Canada where they're really not put off by a little bit of snow. It looks freezing cold in this picture but if the title is anything to go by this photographer was still making his way to work!

'Surprise Snow Flurry Batters Wall Street Broker' by Lab2112

I'm sorry, I can't help it, I'm gong to have to mention the weather because it's seriously keeping us on our toes here this week. One minute it's boiling hot and we're slapping on the sun cream and the next minute the heavens have opened and it's pouring with rain. Therefore my prediction for tomorrow is displayed in this photo. I love how cold it looks there and how you can see how those snowflakes are coming down really hard. With snow like that I wonder how long it took to make the ground all white. Not long I'm guessing.

You never know, it could snow here tomorrow and to be honest I don't think anyone would be that surprised.

'It's snowing' by Lorena Gazzotti

It's snowing by Lorena Gazzotti
It's snowing, a photo by Lorena Gazzotti on Flickr.

Well the clocks in the UK went forward by an hour this weekend but to be honest looking at the weather it's more like the calendar went forward. Seriously, it's more like May at the moment than March. Every time I dare to check the weather forecast it doesn't disappointment me either - looks like the coming week is meant to be just as wonderful.

To celebrate the continuing sunny weather I thought I'd post a highly inappropriate photo of some snow! I love this. It looks so cold but at the same time quite cozy. I also love how this scene is still a work in progress. It's still snowing. I wonder how much deeper it got that day. The snowflakes and the atmosphere have been captured so well.

I will stop talking about the weather soon I promise. It's just this kind of warmth and sunshine is quite a novelty in March so it's hard not to blog about it!

'snow woman' by sp_clarke

snow woman by sp_clarke
snow woman, a photo by sp_clarke on Flickr.

I am posting this picture tonight simply because this is how cold it felt today. Seriously, what happened to the spring weather we had last week? It was the icy wind that was particularly horrible. Brrr, I'm getting cold just thinking about it.

I think this picture looks really bleak and cold but in a in really artistic not depressing way. It makes you wonder what's going on in it. Did the woman make the snowman? Is she walking away leaving it unfinished? Or is the face on the other side? All in all a fascinating and very atmospheric photo.

'KermitSnowAngel (Honoring Mr Jim Henson)' by David Lee Tiller

Well I spoke too soon on Friday when I said I was feeling rather good as I felt hideous all weekend. Everything was aching and baby seemed to get itself in all sorts of really uncomfortable positions. I also managed to get myself in a real panic that there was still so much to do before the baby arrived but my husband has convinced me we're doing OK really. I feel slightly better today but definitely going to try and take it quite easy this week. I'm already counting the hours until bedtime! Urgh, I so hate feeling this useless as I'm usually an active go out and do stuff kind of a person.

It wasn't all bad this weekend though as we took the little one to see The Muppets at the cinema. It was really good actually and she loved it too. Therefore in honour of The Muppets I have found this super cool Kermit snow angel photo for you to have a look at. It made me smile which is what I needed today! I mean what's not to love - snow angels and Kermit the frog - perfect! I love how bright and vibrant this is. Hope it made you smile too.

I promise I'll try and moan a little less in my next post.

'Winter in Amsterdam I' by Marc Rauw.

I've been feeling a little uninspired blogwise for the past couple of days and really thought I'd have nothing to show you today. Luckily though I stumbled across this great photo which made me stop and look twice. Now all the snow and ice has gone here I feel I can look at icy scenes like this again with rose tinted glasses. Doesn't it just look so romantic and lovely skating along a frozen canal in Amsterdam? I love how the photographer has captured so many different types of people. I love how sharp the photo is too and I also love the colour and tone. Hope you like this too.

'Uncrowded Sugar Beach' by Still The Oldie

Uncrowded Sugar Beach by Still The Oldie
Uncrowded Sugar Beach, a photo by Still The Oldie on Flickr.

I thought as the beach huts in the snow photo was so cool I would share another great snowy beach photo with you. Like in the previous picture I love the contrast of the bright colour against the white snow. It looks so bright and summery whilst also looking freezing cold. And of course here comes my surreal observation... I think the umbrellas kind of look like alien space ships hovering low over the snow. You must totally wonder how my crazy brain works sometimes mustn't you.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

'Blythe beach in the snow' by Swaffs

Blythe beach in the snow by Swaffs
Blythe beach in the snow, a photo by Swaffs on Flickr.

Apparently it's meant to snow again tonight. In fact it could be snowing right now - I just haven't got the energy to move to the window to have a look. As much as I really enjoyed playing in the snow on Sunday, I can't say I'll be overly impressed if we do get more as it's only just started melting from last weekend. I wouldn't normally be such a grump about the snow but the pavements have been so icy this week and as I'm pregnant I'm extra worried about falling over.

Oh well, I guess it means more excuses for lovely snowy photos and this one is fabulous. Love that it's a snowy beach and love the bright colour of the beach huts against the crisp white snow. I think the thing that makes it's most striking is the perspective and how the lines of the huts and the fence meet up.

Right, I'm off to look out of the window as I have a feeling it might have actually started snowing since I starting writing this post!

'Winter Benches!' by judo_dad1953

Winter Benches! by judo_dad1953
Winter Benches!, a photo by judo_dad1953 on Flickr.

Well, the weather forecast was correct and the snow is here! It's been snowing for a couple of hours now and although it's not coming down heavily I reckon there'll be a nice enough amount fallen by morning for my daughter to play in. The snow couldn't have come at a better time to be honest as we have absolutely no plans this weekend. Therefore tomorrow we can go out and have a play in the snow then come in and spend the rest of the say snuggled up with hot chocolate and DVDs. And by DVDs I mean The Chipmunks on repeat at that's what my daughter is obsessed by at the moment! I hope if you have snow you have a really fun snow day tomorrow and it doesn't cause you too much distruption.

This photo made me smile as I'm not imagining the snow here will get this deep. It does make me want to just dive in though never mind how cold it would be. Love the black and white, and the fact that this was taken at night makes it even more moody. Fingers crossed there'll be loads more lovely snowy photographs taken over the next few days that I can enjoy looking at and hopefully a I'll get to take a couple myself.

'Blanche et pure' by mmarsupilami

Blanche &<span class=
Blanche et pure, a photo by mmarsupilami on Flickr.

My goodness it was cold here today. It even had a go at snowing although didn't quite manage it. Apparently we may get proper snow by the weekend though. Better fish out my snow boots then. Although that might be a good idea anyway as it turns out Converse shoes (which I've been living in recently) aren't a particularly warm choice of footwear. Thinking about it I reckon so far we've got away with quite a mild winter so I am sure we're long overdue some snow and ice.

Here is a snowy photo that simply took my breath away. I love the pureness and simplicity. There's not much to it but it still manages to make such a great impact. I would describe this as simply stunning.

Stay warm folks!

'Winter Wonderland' by famewhore

Winter Wonderland by Famewhore
Winter Wonderland, a photo by Famewhore on Flickr.

As I type this I am looking out of the window at a very grey day. It's rainy and miserable. It not actually that cold outside but I would prefer it to be cold and sunny than this. I wanted to talk about the weather today as I was wondering if anyone knew if it was meant to snow here in England this winter. As I've mentioned before I'm not overly fussed but the little one is starting to wonder if it's coming at all. Plus I am feeling sad for all our snow shoes sitting in the cupboard unloved and unworn.

Here is a beautiful snowy picture. I love freshly fallen snow like this. This was taken in Vancouver but it is so much like the snow we get here that causes everyone to panic! A photo like this gives me a tingle of excitement about snow and I know if I drew the curtains one morning to reveal this my daughter would be excited too. What I really love about this picture though is the street lamp in the top left corner. It really looks like a beautiful shining star.

Now let's just sit back and wait for snow so I can then blog about how annoying it is and how I can't wait for it to go away!!

'Christmas Day' by ellieswellies

Christmas Day by ellieswellies
Christmas Day, a photo by ellieswellies on Flickr.

I hope you all had a fantastic Christmas - I know I did. There's so much I could share with you about the past few days but I think I'll just use the word I used in my post about Christmas Eve. Magical. My daughter was just so happy and excited the whole day, in fact even two days later she seems to still be on her festive high. I'm very happy but also rather tired. On Christmas Day in fact I ended up going upstairs for a nap. Oh the joys of pregnancy! But this does mean that I got to experience a bit of childhood magic for myself. I went to bed, went to sleep and when I woke up it was still Christmas. Now how many children have wished that could be the case!

I didn't really take many arty photos over the past few day so here is a Christmas Day photo taken by someone else last year. It looks like it was a beautiful day. I love blue skies like this and snow is always a bit special if you end up with some on Christmas Day. My favourite bit of this is the icicles - check out the weird bent one to the left of this picture. I wonder how that happened.

'Pine and snow' by Shari-Lynn1

Pine and snow by Shari-Lynn1
Pine and snow, a photo by Shari-Lynn1 on Flickr.

Well it snowed a little bit this morning. Not enough to settle and cause any disruption but enough that my daughter could get all excited! She said, "I told you it would snow!" as I've been telling her I didn't think it would snow for a while. I would say that's probably it for now but I underplayed the wind on Monday and woke up to a broken fence in the back garden!

Here's a snowy and rather Christmassy photo which I find absolutely beautiful. The colours are so strong and fresh. You can almost smell the pine needles. The detail of the snow is great and I especially love that it's been captured falling out of the sky. This could definitely be a Christmas card.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend!

'A piece of my world' by Kursiv

A piece of my world by Kursiv
A piece of my world, a photo by Kursiv on Flickr.

This time last year it snowed. And it wasn't just a spinkling of snow it was the proper thick stuff. A little part of me hoped it would snow early again this year - I think because my daughter is so excited at the prospect - but in reality I'd rather it stayed away until after Christmas. December is always such a busy time and I don't want to spend it worrying about whether things are going to have to be cancelled due to the weather. I wouldn't mind a little snow in January though. After all we've finally forked out on proper snow boots for each of us and of course I really need to get some pretty snowy photos.

Here is an extremely pretty snowy photograph. In fact 'pretty' is the wrong word really because I think it's truly stunning. It's the beautiful light that does it for me. It makes me want to squeal a little in delight. And look at the perfect freshly fallen snow. I wonder how long it stayed like that for.

'Winter trees' by Zenon Lisztwan

Winter trees by Zenon Lisztwan
Winter trees, a photo by Zenon Lisztwan on Flickr.

I promised you another fantastic wintery photo this week and here it is. Isn't it amazing? It looks like a proper enchanted forest. The angle at which it was taken makes the trees look even taller than I imagine they were. Also perfect in this picture is the sun peeping through the trees. And you've just got to love that rich blue sky. It's hard to feel cold and miserable in the snow when there's a beautiful sky like that.

Wishing you all a happy and warm weekend!
