'Untitled' by Gabriella Totyik

Tomorrow is a big day. I am getting my very first pair of glasses. Last week I admitted to myself that my eyes are not as young as they used to be and decided to have an eye test. Turns out I have very healthy eyes and excellent long distance vision but I could do with some reading glasses. Instead of feeling all down about getting older and my body not being what it used to be I am actually quite excited. I'm still not sure if glasses actually suit me but I don't need to wear them all the time so it doesn't really matter. I am hoping they might make me feel a little bit sophisticated. Intellectual even. I might chew one of the arms when I need to consider something deeply. I will let you know how I get on!

I plan to take a photo of my new eye wear but in the mean time here is a spectacle based photograph which is really lovely. I love the colour and tones and it is a really calm photo. What interests me the most though is the fact that the glasses are facing the window and the tulips are leaning that way too. It's almost like they are looking at something particularly fascinating outside. I wonder if the objects were purposely positioned like that or it was a happy accident. Either way it is a really great photo.

'Weekend Tulip' by ecki

Weekend Tulip

My weekend was rather lovely. Hubby was back after a week away with work so we had a great big snuggly family lie-in yesterday. We also got some things achieved around the house and I managed to make it out for a run. I did 6km which wasn't bad. I want to be back going further but this will have to do for now. But the best bit was spending time on both Saturday and Sunday just hanging out with good friends. I really needed a bit of that. I even managed to find myself relaxing a little bit. Oh how I wish I could be a chilled out person!

This photo makes me wish even harder than I already am for spring. I love tulips and I love bright blue skies. These bold colours are so fantastic and mood-lifting. I want to be taking photos like this myself. I want to stop feeling cold all the time. I want sunshine. I want to stop feeling like the weight of the world is on my shoulders because it really isn't.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

'It's all about spring' by Me

It's all about spring

I am shattered. It's all good though. It's just the sign of a fantastic first week of the Easter holidays. We have been so busy and had so much fun and I'm sad we're almost half way through now. Never mind, another fun filled week lies ahead of us. I expect I will be twice as tired by next weekend but I won't complain (yet) as I'm finding a change is indeed as good as a rest.

Happy weekend everyone. I hope you are having lots of fun in the spring sunshine!

'Mother's Day tulips' by Me

Mother's Day tulips

A Happy Belated Mother's Day to all you mothers in the UK and in any other place in the world that celebrated Mothering Sunday yesterday. I hope you had a lovely day. I had a really wonderful time and felt very spoiled. My five year old daughter is so sweet. She chose her present for me all by herself. Apparently she had her heart set on getting me a vase to put flowers in. She dragged her daddy round lots of shops on Saturday and fell in love with a glass butterfly vase which she really wanted to get for me. I tried photographing it today but was really not happy with the shots I got so here is a close up of the beautiful tulips that are currently sitting in it.

'Tulips' by Hannah Klosowska

I am featuring this lovely tulip photo tonight as I'm unable to show you my own. I bought tulips for myself the other day and hoped I might photograph them - like I always do when I get flowers. Unfortunately I must have bought a bad bunch as they never reached their full potential and didn't end up being very photogenic. Perhaps, I should have seen that as a challenge but I thought it would be nicer to show you this great image. I love all the soft focus. I would say I love the colour but that's too obvious as tulips are beautiful whatever colour they come in. I do, however, like the angle this was taken at. It really shows off the flowers.

'Instagram tulips' by Me

Instagram tulips by PhotoPuddle
Instagram tulips, a photo by PhotoPuddle on Flickr.

Well I've finally done it - I've entered the world of Instagram thanks to a super awesome birthday present of an iPad. I've been wanting to join in this craze for ages as I love the concept - micro blogging through beautiful photos - and the photo effects are fantastic. As you obviously know by now photography and blogging are my two great hobbies so I'm pleased to be able to get involved with this.

Here is one of my Instagram pictures. I never get bored of playing with the effects and finding new and interesting things to take pictures of in my everyday life. I'll no doubt post some more of my photos here in due course.

'Droopy' by Me

Droopy by PhotoPuddle
Droopy, a photo by PhotoPuddle on Flickr.

Well it's the first day of March and as far as I'm concerned that means it's spring time now! And the weather backed me up on this one as it was such a beautiful day. I just wish I wasn't feeling so achy at the moment as it would have been a perfect day for a lovely long walk in the sunshine.

I did make good use of the weather though by using the lovely light to take some pictures of the tulips my husband bought me the other day. I love how they go all droopy when they get a bit old so I thought I'd try and get a really beautiful droopy tulip picture. I'm really pleased with the results.

Happy spring everyone!

'Tulips - Jardin des Plantes_5' by Ofir Peretz

So what did you all get up to this weekend? I had a lovely time. Got lots of baby shopping done (and spoiled my daughter a little too), met up with friends, cuddled a teeny tiny baby and actually went out without a coat!! Got to love the British weather!

I thought I'd celebrate the beautiful weather with a photo full of blue skies and sunshine. This one is great and full of spring time too with the gorgeous tulips. I love the angle this was taken. These flowers look just as pretty from any angle. I love tulips, I love blue skies, I love spring weather. Let's hope there will be lots of all these things in the coming weeks.

'(not my) birthday flowers' by macsoapy

(not my) birthday flowers, a photo by macsoapy on Flickr.

I've had a lovely week this week. It's been half term and my daughter and I have had such fun together. Not been up to anything crazy just hanging out with friends or chilling at home. To be honest I thought I'd be totally exhausted by the end of this week but I actually feel pretty good. Still tired and achy of course but I'm used to that now!

This photo seems like a lovely one to start the weekend with. I love the bright and pretty flowers against the plain background - especially as I think tulips and roses are probably my favourite flowers. I think this is a picture I'm going to find myself coming back to look at time and time again.

Happy weekend everyone!

'Tulip Vase' by M J M

Tulip Vase by M J M
Tulip Vase, a photo by M J M on Flickr.

As you already know I have a thing about beach huts and beach hut photos. Another thing that always makes me smile are tulips and I love photos of them too. They are just so photogenic. And now it's February that means spring is on it's way (not that it feels like it) and spring means lovely spring flowers like tulips. I love the way this single flower is displayed. It looks so elegant. And it has been captured perfectly by the photographer as well. It's such a clean and bright image. It would make a lovely print on the wall of a lovely white house.

'Could it really be spring?' by Me

Could it really be spring?, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

Today spring arrived. It was a beautiful, sunny and not too chilly day. The skies were blue and I even bought myself a lovely bunch of tulips as to me they definitely say spring. I haven't yet looked at the weather forecast for the rest of the week just in case it's meant to rain! I am also loving the fact that evenings are definitely getting lighter. That's definitely a mood lifter.

Anyway, a sunny day means a photo day! Here is a picture I took of my first bunch of tulips of 2011. Aren't they lovely? I like this photo because I think I've managed to capture that gorgeous spring light. Fingers crossed for another spring day tomorrow.

'I love tulips' by Me

I love tulips, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I decided to treat myself to some pretty flowers today. I'm still doing really well at buying flowers for the house. Today I opted for these really colourful tulips. If you'd asked me a year ago what my favourite flower was I would probably have said red roses. I love the colour and I had them as my bridal bouquet. However, my love of photography has really kicked off in the past year and I am seeing flowers in a totally different way. So now I would probably say it's tulips I love the best! I have featured so many lovely tulip photos on this blog already and be prepared there will be more to come!

'Tulips by the fire' by Me

Tulips by the fire, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

We went round to visit friends on Sunday and this was the first thing I noticed when I walked in the house. I really had to fight my photographic urges as I really wanted to get my camera out there are then. Anyway, after a gorgeous roast dinner and a walk by the river I finally bit the bullet and asked if they minded me photographing their fireplace. Of course they didn't mind and I don't think they thought I was too crazy either!

'i'm fond of you' by smallroots

i'm fond of you, originally uploaded by smallroots.

Can post that lovely tulip photo I was telling you about now? I have not been feeling well and I need cheering up. Oh, yeah, it's my blog. I can do what I like so here's a photo which I adore!

As you may have gathered I am going through a bit of a tulip phase at the moment and this is just perfect. I love the close crop. It makes it so different from the typical tulips in a vase shot. And the soft colours are just divine!

Yep, I think I feel a little cheered up now!

'tulips framed' by penwren

tulips framed, originally uploaded by penwren.

You may remember in a previous blog post that I was talking about how tulips used to be red. Read it here if you haven't seen it already and want to know what on earth I am going on about! Well anyway, today I came across this gorgeous photo which totally describes what tulips looked like to me when I was a child! Big, bright, bold and red! This is what comes into my head when I think of tulips.

I like this photo because of the great flowers but also because of the frame the door makes. It's like taking an illicit peek through the window and catching a glimpse of someone's gorgeous home. And a simple thing but I just love the table cloth!

'Another Tulip Shot' by Andrea McClain

Another Tulip Shot, originally uploaded by Andrea McClain.

OK so this is going to sound a bit mad but didn't tulips used to be red? For some reason when I was a little girl I only remember seeing red tulips (and yellow ones occasionally). These days tulips are all colours of the rainbow. And all the better for it! Now I have to decide whether I led a very sheltered childhood when it came to flower colours or whether I have a selective floral memory or whether tulips really were just red back in the day.

It was really hard picking a tulip photo to go with my random musings on the flower. I went for this one though because it's a little bit different from all the rest. Mostly flowers are photographed in vases or really close up or sometime just a bunch lying on a table. But this is the only bunch of tulips I saw in a box. It works well though! And I love the colour combination. The bright pink and bright green are very striking together. Tulips are great whatever colour they are!
