'Brighton seagulls' by Me

Brighton seagulls by PhotoPuddle
Brighton seagulls, a photo by PhotoPuddle on Flickr.

So how was your weekend? Mine was pretty good actually, especially yesterday when we went down to Brighton for the afternoon with a friend. After the week we'd been having weatherwise I was starting to wonder if we were making a bit of a mistake heading to the coast but it was a beautiful day. It was chilly of course but nowhere near as freezing as I thought it would be. In fact we sat on the beach for ages and only left because we were getting hungry and felt in need of pizza.

I wasn't actually planning on taking many photos really as I always take so many down in Brighton but as the weather was so beautiful I found it hard to resist. I love this one of the seagulls just hanging out with West Pier in the background. I made the colours look a little bit retro too and I think it works quite well.

'339/365' by soulman53

I know "It's my blog and I'll post if I want to" but I do feel a bit bad about not posting very regularly at the moment. You see for me this is meant to be a pretty much daily blog but that little thing called life has once again been inconsiderately getting in the way. I have been having a good week though which is included my 20 week baby scan and a rather fun Christmas party. Lots of other fun stuff coming up in the run up to Christmas too. In fact I can't believe Christmas is only a couple of weeks away now. This means I must try and find some beautiful festive photos to share with you, and try and take some of my own. This year's personal challenge is to try and get some lovely ones of fairy lights.

In the mean time though, here is a wonderful picture of one of my favourite places - Brighton. I just love the light of that beautiful morning sky. And even though it was taken this month it doesn't look that cold. In fact it makes me want to go an take a stroll on the pier right now. Perhaps with a an extra few layers on though. And a hat. And a scarf. And a few pairs of gloves!

Happy weekend everyone!

'Under the pier' by Me

Under the pier by PhotoPuddle
Under the pier, a photo by PhotoPuddle on Flickr.

Here's another photo from our lovely day trip to Eastbourne a few weeks ago. I have always wanted to take an under the pier shot and it was so accessible here that I just had to go under and take a few snaps. I love how there's so much going on. So many beams and legs holding it up. I guess there'd have to be really but when you're walking along a pier you don't really think about what's under it. I think this photo works best in black and white too. I think it looks dramatic and interesting.

'Starlings Swarming over West Pier' by tommy martin

I remember West Pier in Brighton before the fire that pretty much destroyed it. I just don't have any great memories of it as it was just some place I took for granted in Brighton. Just something that was there. I wish I'd taken more time to admire it like I do now. I still think West Pier is beautiful. The remains are so fascinating.

I think this is a great picture of the pier before the fire. Gorgeous isn't it? I love the light but my favourite bit is the starlings. Watching them swarm like that is such a surreal and awesome sight. They used to continue to fly like that around the remains. I don't know if they still do. In fact one day I sat on the beach for about an hour just watching these birds. Totally spectacular.

Apologies to people who've never been to Brighton and don't know what I'm going on about. I hope you can still appreciate this lovely photo. If you ever get a chance to visit you really should.

'southwold suffolk' by plot19

I may get the opportunity to go to Southwold in Suffolk later this summer and must admit I am rediculously excited! Silly really but I've got it into my head that it's going to be just so pretty there. In all the pictures I've seen it just looks like the perfect british seaside town. And of course there are many lovely beach huts there. If I do go I will definitely be sure to take a lot of photos. Hopefully some of them will be as good as this one that was taken there. It's such a peaceful and beautiful image. I love all the soft colours with an almost pink hue. Yes, it definitely make me want to got for a visit.

'Tell me something' by Damian Gadal

Tell me something by Damian Gadal
Tell me something, a photo by Damian Gadal on Flickr.

If you were to say the word pier to me I'd automatically picture a big pier full of amusements, food, fairground rides etc - mainly because the first place I'd think of is Brighton Pier. However piers aren't always like that, they're usually much simpler affairs like the one featured in this photo. Their simplicity doesn't make them any less interesting to photograph though. I love this picture so much, mainly because of the beautiful sky and how lovely and calm the sea looks. But I also like the people walking on the pier. Where are they going to? Just to the end and back? I wonder what the view of the beach looks like from the end. It looks like two people in the middle have found something that's made them want to stop and is someone near them having their picture taken? I really could look at the picture for ages.

'Through the window on the Pier' by Andy Farrer

I think this photo is fantastic! The composition of this is great and would make a lovely photo with any kind of sky behind it but wow.... look at THAT sky! What a beautiful colour and managing to capture the sun in that perfect position must have taken dedication. Totally worth it though. Now, I think I might just sit here and look at this picture a while longer.

'Brighton beach' by Me

Brighton beach, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I think I may have mentioned just a FEW times before how much I love Brighton and I never get bored of taking photos there - especially of the old West Pier. Here is one of my latest shots which I took on a beautiful day there a few weeks ago. I was trying to be a bit creative with the composition so I took some with a great expanse of beach and some with lots of sky. This is my favourite one.

It's also a good time of year to get photos of Brighton beach as come the summer there are always so many people on it spoiling my shots. Very annoying!

'West Pier' by Me

West Pier, originally uploaded by PhotoPuddle.

I'm posting this one of mine because I really quite like it. It's of West Pier in Brighton. This is the pier that was destroyed by fire and I must admit that even thought there is not much left of it now it is really fascinating and wonderful to photograph. I am particularly proud of this one as I like the simplicty and I like contrast of the dark pier against the soft blues of the sky and sea. As always, I hope you like it too.

'Father and daughter stroll on the beach' by Me

My husband, my daughter and I went to Brighton today and had an absolutely fantastic day! The sun was shining and we walked for miles, shopped for pretty things, ate nice food and played on the beach. I also took LOTS of photos. It was a perfect day!

So here is one of the photos that I love for obvious reasons. I am already planning my next trip down. I have no idea why we don't go more often! I shall post some more of today's photos soon (including beach huts in Hove - yay!).

'Old Pier - New Pier' by Andy C

Old Pier - New Pier, originally uploaded by Andy C - Brighton.

I am so in love with Brighton. I love both the piers as they are so interesting and really photogenic. The old West Pier has suffered such bad luck. Fires and storms have almost totally destroyed it but some how I think the more it crumbles the more interesting it becomes to photograph. It's very sad really. In total contrast Brighton Pier is full of life - night and day it's always busy.

I love how this photographer has managed to capture both the piers so brilliantly in one photo. Brighton Pier standing proud as West Pier shouts "hey, don't forget me, I'm wonderful too" in the background.
